Class Expectations
General Guidelines:
1. Each book in the library has assigned point values as well as a ZPD range.
You need to read books within your ZPD. You accumulate points from each book you read.
2. You have two goals; an A goal and a personal goal. The A goal is the number of point
you must accumulate to get an A. To get an A you must reach all your points. One
half of your points will give you a C at midterm.
The Personal goal is the number of points you hope to achieve.
3. Your daily goal is to read ten pages in class.
4. You must log pages in your reading log or you will not receive credit for a book or be
allowed to take a test. Keep up your log page every day.
5. Your are expected to read at least ten pages out of class in order to keep up with your A goal.
6. Home reading logs are available to help you monitor your reading outside of class.
7. This is not a study hall.
8. We will take three star tests during the quarter to measure your progress.
Fiction vs. Nonfiction
1. You may read either fiction or nonfiction to earn your points.
2. Students need to read at least two nonfiction articles or one non fiction book a quarter.
Nonfiction articles are only worth one half a point.
3. The point values are greater for fiction than nonfiction.
4. Students who do not complete the nonfiction requirement will have their grade
reduced by one letter grade at the end of the quarter.
Grades
